POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES OFFERED

  1. Ph.D. Degree Programmes

Holders of M.A; M.Ed.; M.Eng.; M.Sc.; LL.M; M.Comm.H.; and M.P.H degrees who have achieved a minimum of 60% or cumulative Grade Point Average score in their Master degree programmes can access these opportunities. The Ph.D. degree programme requires full-time candidates to complete it within a minimum period of 36 calendar months and a maximum period of 48 calendar months. Part-time candidates have a minimum period of 48 calendar months and a maximum period of 60 calendar months to complete the program. Relevant courses must be undertaken for the Ph.D. studies as prescribed, and a Thesis is mandatory upon completion of the Ph.D. program.

2. Candidates scoring between 55.00 and 59.99 percent Cumulative Grade Point Average can apply for admission to the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil/Ph.D.) degree programme. This programme is exclusively available to full-time candidates. It lasts for a minimum of 12 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months, culminating in the production of a dissertation after the research work. Upon completion of the first session of registration, candidates in this category can be considered for conversion to Ph.D. candidature based on a progress assessment report conducted by a Panel of Examiners. To qualify for conversion to the Ph.D. program, candidates must achieve a minimum aggregate score of 60% by the end of the first session.

  1. Master Degree Programmes: M.A.; M.Ed.; M.Eng.; M.Sc.; M.Com.H., LL.M., and M.P.H. degrees have a duration ranging from a minimum of 24 calendar months to a maximum of 36 calendar months for full-time candidates or a minimum of 36 calendar months to a maximum of 48 calendar months for part-time candidates. All Master Degree Programmes entail coursework along with the submission of a research report, culminating in the production of a dissertation.
  2. Postgraduate Diploma Degree Programmes: Postgraduate Diploma degrees are open to candidates with a Third class (honours) degree or lower. It should be noted that programmes automatically expire upon reaching the maximum duration set for each programme. However, candidates may apply for an extension of up to 12 months initially, with a maximum limit of two such extensions.
  3. General Information: The Postgraduate session for Master degree and Postgraduate Diploma programmes spans 12 calendar months, starting from October 2nd and ending on September 30th of the following year. For M.Phil. / Ph.D. and Ph.D. programmes, the session duration is also 12 calendar months, starting automatically from the date of first registration.

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENT FOR ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

  1. Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science shall satisfy one of the following:
  2. a minimum of first degree from a recognized University in the Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences or the Humanities disciplines.
  3. HND in Computer Science or Engineering from recognized Polytechnics with a minimum of Lower Credit; and
  4. HND in any other discipline different from those in (ii) but preferably from Sciences or Social Sciences with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized Polytechnic or equivalent Institution, with at least one year cognate experience.

2. Candidates with Cumulative Grade Point Averages between 55.00 and 59.99 percent are eligible to seek for entry into the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil/Ph.D.) degree program. This option is restricted to full-time participants. It spans a minimum period of 12 calendar months and a maximum of 24 calendar months, concluding with the submission of a dissertation following research endeavors. Candidates falling within this bracket may transition to Ph.D. candidacy after the initial registration period, pending a progress evaluation conducted by a Panel of Examiners. To qualify for Ph.D. consideration, candidates must attain a minimum aggregate score of 60% by the conclusion of the first registration session.

3. Master Degree Programs: M.A.; M.Ed.; M.Eng.; M.Sc.; M.Com.H., LL.M., and M.P.H. degrees have a duration spanning from at least 24 calendar months to a maximum of 36 calendar months for full-time participants, or from a minimum of 36 calendar months to a maximum of 48 calendar months for part-time participants. All Master Degree Programs entail coursework alongside the submission of a research report.

4. Postgraduate Diploma Programs: Postgraduate Diploma qualifications are accessible to candidates with a Third class (honours) degree or lower. It is important to note that programs automatically expire upon reaching the designated maximum duration. However, candidates have the option to apply for an extension of up to 12 months initially, with a maximum allowance of two such extensions.

5. General Information: The Postgraduate session for Master’s degree and Postgraduate Diploma programs spans 12 calendar months, commencing from October 2nd and concluding on September 30th of the following year. As for M.Phil. / Ph.D. and Ph.D. programs, the session duration is also 12 calendar months, starting automatically from the date of initial registration.

6. The Postgraduate Diplomas and Masters degree Programmes will subject applicants to a written assessment (qualifying examination) regardless of the class of degree obtained, except for applicants from the University of Ilorin with a First Class and Second class, Upper Division (Honours).

7.  International applicants (those domiciled outside Nigeria, and non–Nigerian applicants applying outside the country) shall be exempt from the qualifying examination. However, International applicants applying from outside the country for the Doctor of Philosophy programmes shall receive a request to submit a proposal of not more than 5 pages, detailing the research they intend to conduct. This proposal should be sent electronically to pgschool@unilorin.edu.ng.
