Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. It has a population of about 287,000 people (2019 estimate) and an area of 432 km2 (167 sq mi). Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown.

Inhabited by the Kalinago people since the 13th century, and prior to that by other Amerindians, Spanish navigators took possession of Barbados in the late 15th century, claiming it for the Crown of Castile. It first appeared on a Spanish map in 1511.

How to Travel to Barbados from Nigeria

The country generally has two seasons, one of which has significantly more rainfall. This period, known as the “wet season” lasts from June to December. In comparison, the “dry season” lasts from December to May. The annual precipitation ranges from 1,000 to 2,300 mm (40 and 90 in). Temperatures range from 21 to 31 °C (70 to 88 °F) from December to May, and from 23 to 31 °C (73 to 88 °F) from June to November.

Much of Barbados has a tropical monsoon climate, according to the Köppen climate classification scale (Am). Winds of 12 to 16 km/h (7 to 10 mph) prevail throughout the year, giving Barbados a moderately tropical climate.
