Overview of Available Programmes
A. Faculty of Arts
Department of Linguistics and African Languages
- PhD Linguistics
- Entry Requirements: Master’s degree in Linguistics and African/Nigerian Language from the University of Abuja or other recognised universities. Submission of a proposal of at least 1,500 words of the intended research work is required with the application.
- MA Linguistics
- Entry Requirements: Candidates must possess a Bachelor Degree in Linguistics with at least a Second Class (Honours) degree classification (2:2) or a Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in a related discipline (e.g., English Language, Language/Communication Arts, Nigerian languages, French, German, Computer Science, Engineering) with a strong interest in language development. Candidates with related degrees must have a minimum of second-class upper degree classification (2:1).
- Postgraduate Diploma in Linguistics (PGDL)
- Entry Requirements: Candidates must hold a first degree in any field from the University of Abuja or from any recognised University.
Department of Arabic
- PhD Arabic
- MA Arabic
- Admission Requirements: For PhD, a Master’s degree in Arabic and secondary education qualifications (NABIS, SSCE, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB) are required. For MA, a first degree in Arabic is required.
B. Faculty of Education
Department of Library and Information Science
- PhD in Library and Information Science (PhDLIS)
- Entry Requirements: Five ‘O’Level Credit Passes in Arts, Social Sciences, or Sciences subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from any recognised university with at least a GPA of 60% or 55%-59% for MPhil/PhD. Candidates may also hold an MPhil degree in Library and Information Science with at least 60% in the final MPhil degree. An interactive session with the department’s staff is required.
- Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS)
- Entry Requirements: Five ‘O’Level Credit Passes in Arts, Social Sciences, or Sciences, including English Language and Mathematics; a First Degree in Library and Information Science from any recognised university with at least a Second Class (Lower Division) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science with a minimum pass at Credit Level.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science (PGDLIS)
- Entry Requirements: Five (5) ‘O’Level Credit Passes in Arts, Social Sciences, or Sciences (SSCE, NECO), including English Language and Mathematics; a First Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Abuja with a Third Class or from any other recognised university. Candidates from Social Sciences, Arts, Science, Health, and Medical Sciences with a First Degree and a minimum of Second-Class Lower Division or an HND with a minimum of Lower Credit Pass in any discipline are also eligible.
C. Faculty of Science
Department of Chemistry
- PhD Physical Chemistry
- Admission Requirements: As specified in the earlier advertisement for all courses in Chemistry.
D. Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
Department of Veterinary Theriogenology
- Masters of Veterinary Science (MVSc)
- PhD Theriogenology
- Admission Requirement: To be eligible for the Masters of Veterinary Science (MVSc), Theriogenology degree programme, candidates must possess a DVM degree. For PhD in Theriogenology, candidates must have an MVSc degree from any recognised University in addition to the basic O’level requirements.
